Four years after the project’s rise to fame, a new episode of YouTube’s Artist Spotlight follows the prolific career of Marshmello. The Happier producer joins the ranks of Alan Walker, Billie Eilish, and G-Eazy. The release occurred in tandem with the early release of his third full-length album, Joytime III.
More than Music covers Marshmello’s career from his first concerts with Skrillex until now, featuring commentary from manager Moe Shalizi, The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, Tiësto, Logic, and famous gamer Ninja. Some of his major collaborations are highlighted, including Everyday written in collaboration with Logic and Biba, a fusion track with Bollywood giant Pritam.
The 26-minute documentary also follows Marshmello’s special relationship with the Mellogang. The Mello family of Detroit Michigan make an appearance, as well as a young Australian fan named Beni. The documentary makes it clear that Marshmello is more than just a favorite artist, he’s a lifestyle for the Mellogang.
Of course, one of the documentary’s primary focal points is the role of YouTube and music videos in the building of Marshmello’s fame. An entire segment is devoted to the long-running YouTube series Cooking with Marshmello. Fans should also keep an eye out for some fun celebrity cameos along the way.
