We know, we said 7 Steps.  But sometimes, you just have to break the rules.  The same is true with EQ.  Every now and then, a particular sound presents a unique challenge.  Other times, a particular EQ is designed to impart a specific tone.  This can be a key to fitting a sound into a mix.

Don't be afraid to experiment with your EQ!

You sneaky bastard.

You’ve tried everything.  Your whole mix balances, until you add in that one sound.  At that point, let yourself forget the rules and try an EQ built for vibe.  Don’t be afraid to ride that EQ to its limits and see what happens.  You might be surprised by the results!
