The Middle has received nominations for Record and Song of the Year at the 2019 Grammys. The track came to life with a collaboration effort between Zedd, Grey and Maren Morris. Do they have a chance at winning the biggest award in all of music?
Childish Gambino, Drake, Lady Gaga, and Cardi B are facing off against Zedd. Find out who will take home the biggest award in all of music on Sunday, February 10.
It is interesting that Zedd didn’t receive a nomination for best Electronic recording with The Middle. On the other hand, Zedd received a nominee for best pop duo/group performance. Without a doubt, voters are treating The Middle as a pop song instead of an electronic production.
Are they justified in their classification? Zedd hasn’t been able to find a place for the original in his live shows. Throughout 2018 Zedd played a remix of The Middle by Marc Benjamin. Perhaps Zedd classifies it as a pop recording too, and thus opts to play electronic remixes for his electronic performances.
It will be a tough race for Zedd, but considering the fact that The Middle has reached nearly 600 million Spotify plays we wouldn’t count it out of the running just yet. Zedd is the first electronic artist to be nominated for Record and Song of the year in the same voting cycle at the Grammy’s.
