With mainstream shows becoming the norm nowadays, the art of the rave culture has been put to the test. Whether it be from the lack of underground raves, where back forest roads would go on and on with no chance of finding it on the GPS, or shows chipping away at items we can normally bring in, the strain on deep grassroots ravers has never felt more real. With that being said, a monthly gathering in Portland hopes to change those ways.
Tito felt the negative stigma going through the rave scene and wanted to change it. Stealing the idea from his sister Desiree, who had a get together in Seattle with a huge turnout, he felt like he could do the same in Portland. Tito Del Valle and Tj Bundy (Co-Founders) held a small gathering at Tj’s apartment. A group of 30 or so focused on bringing glovers from around the area together to share and brainstorm ideas, which turned into Portland’s Lights All Night (PLAN). They thought that by the third show they needed to spread their wings. So with the help of Adam Walters (Co-Leader), they branched out to Alex Perrin, Jared Geber and Ryan Bonilla’s home, making it a monthly gathering spot. It grew, until finally arriving at Studio 20 ,with over 160 attendees in a sold out audience.
(It’s) a safe haven for self-expression and positivity, whether it be through flow lights, dancing, art, conversation, kandi, food & whatever adds to the positive atmosphere we encourage-Tito Giovanni Del Valle
Portland’s PLAN has been going on since early 2014, in the hopes of bringing back a lost attitude to raving. What seems great about it is that it feels like its going in the opposite direction than most of the dance music scene. It doesn’t rule out person’s way to get creative, like Diplo banning kandi, or change the way someone shares their great vibes with others. It welcomes it, embraces it, and it’s meant for it. It’s a place to come together to share or trade, teach and learn, dance and converse. A place to practice your art.
