In the last 40 years, the development of electronic music has progressed and changed immensely. From the introduction of disco into the world, to having pop EDM hits topping Billboards Top 10 Tracks, electronic music has dramatically changed over that period of time.
Martin Garrix, Carl Cox, and many others teamed up to create a Documentary “What We Started,” which will be focusing on the progression of dance music over time. The movie will focus on Cox’s development and impact on the world of electronic music, but, will also feature Martin Garrix’s quick rise to becoming a #1 world DJ in only a few years after entering the scene.
The trailer shows artists such as David Guetta, Steve Angello, Seth Troxler, and Paul Oakenfold commenting on Garrix’s sudden rise to fame. While all of these artists took many years of working hard to get where they were, Garrix’s fame grew almost overnight. From what we can see, some artists seem quite impressed with Garrix’s rise to fame. However, others are quite bitter that he blew up so quickly, instead of working his way into the scene and up the charts. Check out the trailer below:
The movie will be in select theaters on the following dates:
Miami: March 22nd
New York: March 23rd
Los Angeles: March 29th
The film is releasing nationwide on March 23rd through Abramorama, which also helped create Above & Beyond’s documentary “Giving Up The Day Job,” screening in Seattle and Portland in March.
