Mija has come a long way since she jumped into our scene by performing an unexpected back to back with Skrillex at Bonnaroo in 2014. On September 14, Mija released a 2 track EP, Just Enough. Which resulted in an ongoing 21 date tour across the United States. In conjunction with her tour, she will be performing in the Pacific Northwest for FreakNight on October 26. We think she is one of the most exciting artists on the Freaknight lineup.
What’s exciting about Mija is that she does not necessarily fit into any genre. She has adopted the term “fk a genre,” to avoid categorizations. Mija selects music associated with the stage she is playing on. At Magnifique 2016 she performed on the Main Stage Gorge Amphitheater and played a combination of bass, trap, house, and metal.
During Paradiso and Shambhala 2017, she was on the the trance/house stage, where she played a mix of tech & deep house, with some dubstep, drum & bass, and happy hardcore sprinkled on top to keep us guessing. When she performed in Seattle and Portland in October of 2017 she played nearly every genre imaginable. Mija always switches it up.
Mija is performing on the Midway Mayhem. As a result, we think she will perform a house centered set, while covering multiple genres. Her most recent singles Talk and Secrets are drum and bass influenced, so keep an eye out for those songs during the set. Don’t be surprised if she plays some happy hardcore towards the end, with selections such as Time Stops. Most importantly what costume do you think she will be wearing?
Tickets for Freaknight are still available. Mija’s set is a must see for the FreakNight celebrations! Will you be attending Mija’s set? Who are you most excited for? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter!
