LABEL TAKEOVERS: Never Say Die, Rottun, Firepower, Circus, Mau5trap
We’ve been a fan of the recent label-takeovers at Shambhala, with the artists from Dirtybird Records and OWSLA taking control of the Pagoda the last couple of years. This has our minds racing over the potential for label-related fun at the Farm in 2017. Fitting in with our requests for deadmau5 & REZZ, we would massively enjoy a Mau5trap takeover at the Pagoda next summer, featuring artists like ATTLAS, eekkoo, Matt Lange, and more.
A label that’s been featuring in our personal playlists non-stop lately is Never Say Die. The SKisM-led label has been one of the best in all of bass music in recent years, and the expansion to the Black Label has us thinking. A takeover at the Village from the dubstep-focused branch of Never Say Die would be a helluva way to ring in the 20th edition of Shambhala.
We’d also love some local labels, such as Excision’s Rottun Records, or Datsik’s Firepower Records, both of which could host quite a show at the Village next summer.
LIVE-SETS: Destroid, Pendulum, NERO, Big GrizMatik, Modestep
We know that live-sets at Shambhala are kind of tough. Not all of the stages are built for the kind of production and set-up that some acts necessitate. That being said, we don’t care! The wonderful people at Shambhala are creative and, with the right artists and proper prep-time, we believe anything is possible.
That doesn’t mean these performances are any more likely, but we can envision any type of Shambhala we want for next summer in our minds. Plus, acts like Chali 2na, Beats Antique, and more put on great sets last year, and many others have in the past as well. So, we’d like Destroid, please. For all of the obvious reasons: they’re amazing, they’re Northwest-natives, and they love Shambhala as much as we do. Plus, whether it would be at the Village or the Pagoda, Destroid would put on the show of a lifetime at the Farm. Modestep would also be quite the live-show, especially at the Village.
Huge acts like Pendulum and NERO would be incredible as well, and would likely be Pagoda-performances. Either of these acts, two of the most talented and influential acts in all of dance music, performing with their full lineups at Shambhala would put the 20th anniversary into the stratosphere.
The only thing that could top a legendary set from some of the biggest names in the game: Big GrizMatik in the Fractal Forest. Whether it’s in the Fractal Forest, or out in the Metta camping, we’ll happily take the combination of Big Gigantic, Griz, and Gramatik performing live together at Shambhala. They have plenty of experience at the Farm between the them, and combining forces for a special celebration is what the 20th anniversary is all about.
