While we may need to be a bit more patient for hover cars and lightsabers, the ability to DJ from album covers is here. Hailing it as the world’s first interactive album packaging, DJ Qbert’s upcoming double album’s vinyl cover isn’t just for housing awesome tunes. When synced to Algoriddim’s iOS app ‘djay 2’ via bluetooth, the cover for Extraterrestria/GalaXXXian functions as a touch-sensitive MIDI controller.
The idea was funded by a Kickstarter campaign that raised $128,000 for the project. The interactive cover is just another reason to love DJ Qbert, also known as Richard Quitevis, who is one of the most highly regarded turntablists and artists around. Extraterrestria/GalaXXXian was released digitally on July 1st of 2014, and the release of the interactive cover is more proof that Qbert is an innovator at every level and a living-legend. Check it out in action in the video below.
