[divider]INTRODUCTION[/divider]
This year has seen great release after great release from major and local artists alike. Of course albums from deadmau5, Porter Robinson, and Knife Party will gain attention and be listened to from dance music fans around the world. But there are several releases from artists right here in the Northwest that deserve recognition as well. The large, and growing, number of great DJs and producers in the Northwest is no secret, but these works set themselves apart in a year full of fantastic tunes.
We selected five releases, either albums or EPs, from artists with Northwest ties or that are based out of our lovely area. They’re in no particular order and are all well worth purchasing and downloading.
[divider]HONORABLE MENTION[/divider]
There were a lot of great releases from Northwest artists this year, and cutting the list to five was difficult enough. So we’d like to mention a couple of other EPs that deserve your attention as well. Tacoma’s R0ME, also known as Ramon Jones, released his debut EP Brainstorm last month and gives plenty of reasons to look forward to his second EP, Winter Solstice, which is due out December 21st. Gruv1, based out of Seattle, also released his debut EP last month. The two-track work was released via local label Build It DEEP and shot up the Beatport charts right away. Both debut EPs are great listens and show that the Northwest dance music scene is continuing to grow, with new producers releasing quality tunes all the time.
