The bounce king, more commonly known as TJR, made his way back to Portland this last weekend, and it was everything we could have hoped for. We first saw TJR at Paradiso in 2015, and when he dropped Combo’s Bill Durry we knew we would be a fans for a long time. Every time TJR comes to Portland it is well received.
Jake McGeorge and Gabriel Driscoll kicked off the night, doing a great job waking up the crowd. Gabriel Dricoll started off a bit mellow and then set us up perfectly for TJR’s set. When TJR took that stage, and you could tell the main event was there. The energy through out the room was energetic and flat out insane! There was not a body standing still in that room.
We knew it was going to be a great night when one of the security guards looked at the crowd and just shook his head. There was no calming down the crowd and it was just getting started.
TJR’s set started off with his Melbourne sound that we are use to, and love. Moving through the night he got a little heavier playing a bit of trap. He then played some house music, dropping Zedd and Chainsmokers. He played a few different genres that surprised us but stuck to Melbourne for most the night, which is exactly we wanted.
He not only puts on a great show when it comes to his music, but with his performance as well. It is awesome to see a DJ get so into what he is doing, as he too was dancing through out his set.
We have gone to 45 East many times, and it just keeps growing on us. It is quickly becoming our favorite venue in Portland. The staff is nice, they don’t over sell so there is space to dance, and you don’t feel out of place. It seems like a true 21+ venue that brings in people of all ages. TJR’s crowd was no exception.
We have had the opportunity to see TJR for the last three years, and we would not be mad if he continued to come to the Northwest every year. His vibe and sets are the exact energy we need more of. If you ever get the chance to see TJR, please do, you will not only have an amazing time, but you will burn some calories.
Will you catch TJR next time he’s in town?
