Over their 10+ week run, The Dance Music Diaries has sat down with a number of luminaries within our local scene. We’ve heard from promoters, tastemakers, and everything in between, slowly putting together the puzzle of what makes the Northwest tick. For their 11th episode, the guys chatted with AJ Sorbello, known familiarly as Gruv1. The deep house maestro has come a long way since his days of trying to scratch-DJ to old albums from The Prodigy. He’s been raving since JNCO jeans were in style, evolving into the masterful artist he is today.
The interview itself is a fascinating look into the old school rave scene that Sorbello was very much a part of, taking us back to a time where dance music was far smaller than what we’ve become accustomed to in our modern scene. As it is with most Dance Music Diaries guests, it’s a walk down memory lane that helps us remember where we came from and how we got to where we are today.
