There are some people who seem to attend every festival around. I am not one of those people. Incidentally, I’m no stranger to festivals either. My first festivals were Vans Warped Tour and BFD in the Bay Area nearly fifteen years ago. Since then my music taste has changed and I’ve attended a handful of electronic dance music festivals including Identity Festival, Paradiso, Ultra, and Beyond Wonderland. This past weekend, I attended what may have been my best music festival yet — What the Festival in Dufur, Oregon.
My group and I purchased “Early Entry” tickets, so we were able to get there by Thursday evening. Entry into the festival was a cinch and we were in the gates and into the festival grounds in about ten minutes. On Friday, I overheard some camping neighbors saying that it took them about an hour to enter the festival, but they agreed that even an hour wait wasn’t too bad. The campgrounds were still pretty empty on Thursday, and it was relatively easy to find a shady spot away from the crowd. My Thursday was spent wandering around the festival grounds and taking in all the sights. The air lingered of anticipation with what was yet to come. You could tell the excitement was stirring in people, but at the same time everyone was chill and taking it easy.
