The 5 Toughest Paradiso 2015 Set-Time Conflicts (And What To Do About Them)

[divider]Stylust Beats & G Jones vs. Big Gigantic & Galantis[/divider]

The first conflict attendees will be faced with comes within the first few hours of the weekend. On day one of Paradiso, Stylust Beats is followed by G Jones at The Wreckage (bass stage) from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m, while Big Gigantic and Galantis take over the Paradise Main Stage from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. As is the case with most of these conflicts, there really isn’t a bad choice. But beginning your festival experience in the proper fashion, especially after travelling to The Gorge and setting up camp, isn’t something that should be taken lightly.

What To Do: If you’re looking to kick-start your Paradiso adventure with some quality bass in your face, Stylust Beats & G Jones are the easy option. But a chance to catch funky duo Big Gigantic, and Galantis’ long-awaited Northwest debut (especially after the cancelled second night of FreakNight 2014), on the Main Stage within the first few hours of the weekend might be too much to pass up. If you can live without catching two of the top live-acts at the entire festival, in order to feed your need for bass, then The Wreckage is for you. Should that decision not be so easy, the Paradise Main Stage is where you should be.

A great example of the wide variety of artists and tunes available at Paradiso is the conflict taking place on Friday, when fan-favorites Haywyre and Trippy Turtle perform at The Wreckage from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m., and the legendary Green Velvet takes over the Digital Oasis stage from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Offering up completely different styles, from completely different eras, having to decide between sets like these is what great festivals like Paradiso are all about.

What To Do: In all likelihood, genres of choice will be the key factor in settling this conflict. Green Velvet is a house music veteran who’s blend of tech house is the perfect appetizer for Seattle’s Dirtybird BBQ in early-July. But the future of dance music is at Paradiso, and the future is bright. Haywyre’s brand of ‘future bass’ is the new in-sound of EDM, and Trippy Turtle’s mysterious existence is only overshadowed by his quality mixes. With this conflict, you’re picking either a history lesson from a legend, or a taste of the now and future of EDM. Whichever of those experiences you’re looking for at Paradiso this summer should decide which set(s) you attend.

Bass fans have long been aware, and are often mentally prepared, for the consistent conflicts that arise when the headlining acts perform at multi-stage festivals. So, when Doctor P and Funtcase’s B2B set was scheduled for the same time as one of dance music’s most rapidly rising stars in Alesso, nobody was surprised. Even less were surprised when Metrik, the premier Drum & Bass artist performing at Paradiso this summer, was put up against Skrillex’s Northwest-return. Alesso’s set on the Paradise Main Stage goes from 11 p.m. – 12 a.m., while Skrillex will close out the festival from 12 a.m. – 1:30 a.m. Over at The Wreckage, Doctor P & Funtcase perform from 11:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m., and Metrik closes out the stage from 12:30 a.m. – 1:30 a.m.

What To Do: Of course, this could be an easy decision for some. But whenever several of the top acts of the entire festival are performing at the same time, many will struggle with what to do. Nobody wants to miss Doctor P B2B Funtcase or Metrik, but when the main stage is offering up two of the biggest artists in dance music, that sad possibility becomes more and more likely. Especially when thoughts about the size of the crowd, not only for Alesso, but for Skrillex’s set as well, come to mind. For this conflict, it’s either sticking to your bass-head ways and getting two incredible sets, or joining the masses at the main stage for the headliners, which nobody would blame you for doing.
