There’s has been a lot of noise coming from women this past year. 2013 has been one where women seem to be rocking the world and making wakes big enough to keep heads turning. Hailing from LA, California, Jennifer Lee (also known as TOKiMONSTA) has just released her Sophomore album, Half Shadows. On it, comes a personal favorite that is just the right mixture of creepy and cool. “Soul to Seoul” sounds like an eerie adventure through a dark, mossy forest of layered textures and deep, yet clean vocals that highlight the acoustics. There is a shadowy choir accompanied by a haunting drum pattern that lingers long after the song is over.
TOKimONSTA is far from original. We highly reccomend checking out the full LP. It’s one to listen to in the car while driving in the rain, or sitting on a becnch to watch the trees bend. It’s a piece of work meant to be absorbed and listened to. Pure magic. Between the mastery of melody and skilled contruction palette, TOKiMONSTA has amazed us again with pristine production.
