Christmas came early when ODESZA released their instant masterpiece In Return back in September. The crown jewel of Seattle electronic music has continued their generous holiday spirit by giving their fans a stocking stuffer, with their brand new remix of Slow Magic’s Waited 4 U. Clayton Knight and Harrison Mills have been extremely busy lately. Following In Return’s release, Clayton and Harrison completed a sold out United States tour that included two Seattle shows, dropped yet another flawless No Sleep mix and even had time to catch up with us at Shambhala. Despite their nonstop schedule, ODESZA is proving that they are just getting started, as they have kicked off their European and Australian tour with Slow Magic. The Seattle-based duo is also slated to perform at Lake Tahoe’s massive SnowGlobe Festival.
An ODESZA remix of a Slow Magic track almost seemed inevitable. Both sharing wildly innovative sounds and now on the road together, it was only a matter of time before the two groups collaborated. A month ago, Slow Magic remixed Say My Name by ODESZA and it only added to the utterly blissful song. Slow Magic slowed the song down, added some nice and tight snare drums, and even featured his dad on an epic guitar solo, yet still kept the integrity of ODESZA’s hit song. The ODESZA remix of Waited 4 u also maintains the song’s vibe but adds their own twist that makes the track even more epic. The only thing waiting is an original composition featuring both parties, but we won’t get too greedy here at Dance Music Northwest.
This song is an orgasmic smorgasbord of sounds, including a dreamy accordion synth, funk claps, chimes, and crisp 808’s. ODESZA is masterful at chopping up vocal samples and it really shows in their Waited 4 U remix. The group also adds in a bird song that coalesces with the euphoric vocals of Nina De Freitas to produce a truly harmonious sound. ODESZA remix of Waited 4 U exudes good vibes, yet is melodic and downtempo enough to be the perfect rainy day song.
