Sometimes a new app or website will come out and it just seems to be white noise amidst everything else claiming to be cool and new and innovative and whatever other words advertisers have decided will get traffic. This is not the case with Serendipity. Serendipity is an exciting new Spotify appendage that tracks when two people hit play on the same song at the same time, and then it shows their location on a stylized map of the world.
It’s fascinating to see what people in different parts of the world are listening to. In the course of only a few minutes we were blown away by just how much of a reach some of the songs we know and love have, as well as some we thought were more obscure. People in Philadelphia and NYC pushed play on Stay With Me by Sam Smith at the same time, then right after in Tijuana and Toronto, Summer by Calvin Harris was played.
Give Serendipity a whirl, as it spans every single genre so you never know what snippet you’ll hear next. What do you think? Were you surprised by some of the musical matches?
