We quickly made our way to the parking lot to hop a cab into Gastown, where we were hoping to make it in time to catch AC Slater at MIA. Lucky for us, we managed to snag a ride before the masses exited and arrived at one of Vancouver’s newest clubs for the final bit of the Night Bass Showcase. MIA features a wonderful Funktion-One sound system, perfect for showcasing AC Slater’s diverse palette of music. Near the end of his set, we received the much-awaited phone call about who was playing the official after-party back at Celebrities. Lo and behold, it was one of our favorite artists from the main event, Mija.
AC Slater @ MIA (March 25th)
Arriving to Celebrities just in time to hear the last bit of Mija’s set, we decided to check out the newly opened Celebrities Underground. The space featured several pieces of interactive art as well as other works from local artists. The night’s final performance was about to kick off, so we hurried back up stairs to be greeted by none other than Porter Robinson. Blueprint has a history of hosting amazing afterparties during their massives that feature surprise guests, but we have to say that this was hands down the best surprise we’ve ever seen from them. Porter blew us away with his ability to mix literally every genre of music into what we feel was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Where else would you be able to see Porter Robinson live and followed up with a club venue DJ set? We applaud you Blueprint — well done.
Now more than halfway through Seasons, we looked forward to returning to the PNE Coliseum for the 2nd night of the weekend’s main event. This time, we arrived plenty early to catch a live performance by GRYFFIN, and we’re glad we did. Here we had a DJ who’d recently decided to make the transition to a live set that incorporated multiple instruments that still allowed for the energy of a usual DJ set.
GRYFFN – Seasons 2016 Main Event – Night 2
Switching back to the CDJs, SNBRN followed up with a wonderful set of House, Nu Disco, and Tropical grooves. Despite the somewhat rainy weather outside, we felt like summer was in full swing inside the Coliseum. Keeping with the tropical vibe, Thomas Jack followed suit with his typically crowd-pleasing brand of music.
