When Porter Robinson released the first track off his upcoming Worlds album Sea Of Voices, he brought us a dance music track that hardly felt danceable, but moved us to feel all the same. One intrepid YouTube user saw the inspiring, gigantic scope of this song, and took it upon himself to set it to one of the most iconic speeches in cinema history: Charlie Chaplin’s stirring call to unity in The Great Dictator.
The silent film star took to the screen to be heard in 1940 with a speech that still resonates today, entreating the world for ‘universal brotherhood, and for the unity of us all.” Set to the uplifting, yell-from-the-mountaintops size of Sea Of Voices and moving imagery culled from all corners of the internet, we have ourselves a video that embodies the true spirit of dance music. More than anything, Chaplin’s emotionally charged speech calls for us to come together and above all else, “be kind, whenever it is possible.”
Let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, to do away with greed, with hate and intolerance! Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men’s happiness.
