At this point, we’re hardly surprised by anything deadmau5 does when it comes to social media. The controversial producer came out of Twitter retirement last week to go after Wildstylez for a case of perceived thievery. The similarities between the mau5’s Some Chords and Wildstylez’ Straightforward were clear, and the war began to take shape.
On one side of the debate, we had what seemed like a clear-cut case of copy-pasting a chord progression without permission. Pulling no punches, deadmau5 single-handedly took on the hardstyle community as they aggressively came to the defense of Wildstylez. The two went back and forth on Twitter and Facebook, and the conflict seemingly came to an unsatisfying conclusion. That is, until Straightforward disappeared from YouTube, replaced by a copyright claim by none other than deadmau5 himself.
It’s clear that lawyers have now entered into the equation, but it’s unclear to what extent. We could very well never see the offending track again, with Joel’s legal team having cease-and-desisted it out of existence. All is currently quiet on the social media front for both artists, but we don’t expect someone like the mau5 to stay quiet for long.
