It has taken a great deal of paperwork and clearance for the Rose City Music Hall to make it this far. Back in 2018 Willamette Weekly reported that the venue will open in early 2020. They are on pace to complete that promise. The Rose City Music Hall will be positioned in North-East Portland on the top floor of Lloyd Center. The Space was previously owned by Nordstrom.
The Oregonian has reported that the venue will be operated by Live Nation events. The concrete details of the process have been underway for the last two years. In October 2018 applications were completed for a Liquor Licence. We are one step closer to completion. Finally, Portland will have a large scale venue with proper sound and acoustics.
The current system is adequate and concert experiences are enjoyable, but The Rose Garden (Moda Center) and The Veterans Memorial Coliseum were constructed for sporting events. As a result, the ceilings are too high and the sound is distributed unevenly.
When the Rose City Music Hall is fully operational it will be an upper mid-size venue. Think WaMu Theater size. We will still have plenty of shows at the Roseland Theater and 45 East. Previous shows and events at the Memorial Coliseum and Moda Center could be relocated to the Rose City Music Hall.
