What do you get when you blend together funky soul and fluctuating, tweaked vocals? One hell of a sexy song. And that’s just what Penthouse Penthouse has served up at the bar. Their music seems to fall effortlessly between chill-wave and nu-disco, but never appears to cement themselves into one genre. The duo consists of Mike Parvizi and Preston James Walker. In college, they befriended many other music lovers and producers. After becoming close, they started late night jam sessions of soul and jazz.
The boys themselves have described their music as “day-dreamy; hot and hazy in downtown LA during the summer with retro convertibles, fresh-cut grass, and blunts being passed around on luxurious yachts.” Their double use of the word Penthouse came from the idea that upon hearing their music, they want the listener to picture extravagance and throw money around on expensive things. Fancy.
Now, if you don’t think this multitude of groovy layering is too much for you to handle (believe me, it’s hot), hold on to that summer sensation and hit play. And as Penthouse Penthouse said, “this one is for all you pretty people sippin’ cocktails by the pool.” Now I’ll take that one on the rocks.
