[textblock style=”3″]Don’t: Be that person who’s embarrassingly drunk or high and flailing all over the place to the point that you are at risk of injuring people around you. We at Dance Music Northwest believe that if you require being completely wasted to enjoy yourself at an EDM event you should re-evaluate why you’re there.[/textblock]

[textblock style=”2″]Do: Know your limits. Take care of yourself and others. USC’s Conscious Crew, Stay Safe Seattle (S3) and other groups are dedicated to your safety. Don’t be afraid to ask for help, or ask someone if they need help. Our scene is a beautiful one and we want to keep you part of it. If you feel like you’ve gone in too deep, or you find someone who has, for goodness sake’s seek help! There are awesome people who want to make sure that you are ok. For more suggestions on what this entails see our reaction to last year’s epidemic of overdoses. Along those lines, if you insist on doing drugs, at least be aware of what you’re taking. S3 has a presence at a lot of events where you can test what you brought, you can also buy testing kits to use in advance. [/textblock]

[textblock style=”3″]Don’t: Forget to take care of yourself before and during the festival. Yes, certain extra-curriculars have a more noticeable effect on an empty stomach, but you’ll be dancing all night and need the energy. Part of what is special about raving is that fact that YOU are there, and we want to keep it that way. This is perhaps the most important tip of all, as we want you to be functional after the event too so you can come back for more. [/textblock]

[textblock style=”2″]Do: Hydrate and feed yourself, starting a few days before the show. Think of it the way an athlete prepares for an event. They eat healthy carbs and protein, they hydrate, and they stretch. While it may not seem like it at the time, raving is an endurance event and you need to properly ready your body for it. With that being said, energy drinks are not a substitute for hydration. They elevate your heart rate and come with a wide variety of chemicals that could interfere with other substances in your body. Use energy drinks sparingly, remember that water is your friend! For the morning after, oranges/orange juice and coconut water will be your best friend. [/textblock]

Lizzy has been raving since the wee age of 14 after being grounded for a month for having rave fliers in her bag. Like her other love, snowboarding, what was supposed to be "a phase" has become an essential part of her life and she is excited to see a new generation developing the same love.
