Ratatat’s relationship with the electronic music scene is best described as ‘tenuous at best.’ Yes, the duo messes around with electronic elements, but also delves heavily into many other genres. Honestly, that’s a large amount of the band’s appeal; its unpredictable nature and experimental style keep the audience guessing.
However, one thing is certain, Ratatat’s new album, Magnifique, is due out on July 17th. The debut release from the album, Cream on Chrome, sounds like classic Ratatat with a kick—setting absurdly high expectations for the rest. It’d better blow our minds, because the album’s been five freaking years in the making. Some of it was even recorded in Jamaica, which admittedly puts the band’s sense of urgency strongly into question.
Fortunately, Capitol Hill Block Party takes place the week following the release of Magnifique, so it’s highly likely that the Northwest will be getting to hear Ratatat’s new music firsthand. You didn’t forget about their upcoming Seattle visit, did you? If you’re as excited for the album and concert as we are, share you enthusiasm via Facebook, Twitter, or our comments section!
