Electro House is very much alive in Portland, as the popular Whiskey Bar opened its doors last Saturday night to a juiced-up crowd eager to dance to Chicago native Lucky Date. The electro house master who now resides in Oakland, California had to cancel his previous schedule visit the Rose City due to bad weather conditions. With the anticipation of seeing Lucky Date at such a close personal venue, Saturday Night House Sessions became a hot ticket with just a handful available at the door.
Entering the Whiskey Bar at 10:30, the crowd began to build with everyone finding their way to the bar and dance floor. Local Night City was getting everyone warmed up, playing nice variety of tracks that could be heard all the way into the street. The next local Evan Alexander laid down one of the best sets we’ve heard from him to date, taking us on a musical ride, starting midway through the night as the bpm picked up along the the way.
We began our trek through the masses right around 12:30 in anticipation of the night’s headliner taking over the decks. As he entered through the wings, an anxious crowd exploded with cheering. At just 24 years old, Lucky Date is no newcomer to electronic dance music scene, playing at huge festivals all over the country and even rocking the main stage at the Northwest’s biggest electronic dance music festival Paradiso last year.
Lucky Date seemed to throw gas on the figurative fire as the crowd packed the dance floor to his newest tracks. With a scheduled hour and a half set, Lucky Date kept feeding the fire in the Whiskey Bar, even mixing in some of his older selections. It was tough to head home at the end of the night as the patrons pleaded for more once the lights came up at 2am, Lucky Date even pleaded with the venue himself to throw down one more song, but alas was denied. The night ended there, and a more-than-satisfied crowd filed into the streets following the night of dancing that the Whiskey Bar won’t soon forget.
