October 18, 2018, marked the two year anniversary since the release of the short film and music video for Porter Robinson and Madeon’s hit track, Shelter. The six-minute short film is produced in collaboration with Crunchyroll and A-1 Pictures.
Crunchyroll is an American distributor and licensing company, and an international online community. Its primary focus includes East Asian media such as anime and manga. A-1 Pictures Inc. is a Japanese animation studio and a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment’s anime production firm, Aniplex.
Based on an original story written by Porter Robinson, the short film for Shelter tells the story of a 17-year-old girl named Rin who lives inside a futuristic simulation. Despite being all alone in the simulation, she was content in her beautiful loneliness. She maintains control of the simulation every day through a tablet that she uses to create different variations of the virtual world that she lives in. Until one day, she comes to learn the true origins of her life over the past few years.
