Porter Robinson Gifts A Happy Surprise With Early Release Of ‘Sad Machine’

Porter Robinson’s Sad Machine was not due for a full release until May 13. Luckily for fans, the beautiful track has been premiered a day early. Sad Machine, the second track to be released from his upcoming album Worlds, really showcases Porter Robinson’s direction to steer straight into his creatively and composed an absolutely stunning track. Not only did Porter Robinson produce Sad Machine, he also provided some of the vocals. With the assistance of Vocaloid, a singing voice synthesizer, Porter Robinson was really able to take his talents to a new level. Although it may not have a typical “electronic dance music” genre or vibe with drops and excessive bass, with the sheer perfection of its originality Sad Machine really proves Porter Robinson is a true artist.

Our friends over at The Fader got a great angle on the unique technology Robinson utilized to bring us this track.
I’d used Vocaloid as the vocals for several of the songs on Worlds, and then the idea of a duet between a lonely robot girl and the human boy who encounters her occurred to me. I didn’t have much time before I had to turn in the entire album, so I just sang the male parts. I wanted something that felt distantly sad, a little cute, surreal, hopeful, and maybe somehow evocative of fiction?
