Earlier this year there was a very interesting interview in the Village Voice with Pete Tong. In the article, Pete Tong said that music is starting to grow up a bit when it comes to the fans and artists in the EDM scene. Those artists and fans are looking for something with a little more emotion and beauty than the over-the-top EDM that is dominating the market right now. Well, other artists are definitely starting to join in on that bandwagon.
Porter Robinson recently told In The Mix that he has created a Soundcloud account that only followed the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs. The purpose of which is to see what those artists are doing and to keep his ear to ground, so to speak, to listen for the most current trends in the scene.
“I’m seeing this trend of a lot of these [top 100] guys jumping ship and trying to make pseudo deep house inspired stuff”
Porter Robinson is one smart cookie for only being 22 years of age, but is he wrong? One might call this the ‘smoking gun’ for Pete Tong’s statements about what direction the music scene is headed. What do you think about the current state of the industry? Do you think the deep house sound will be the dominant force in the industry?Let us know, in a comment below, or on our Twitter page.
