Have you pressed play on Porter Robinson’s second single from his upcoming Nurture Album? Something Comforting was officially released on March 10, 2020. Now most recently on March 25 Robinson released the official music video to accompany his track.
The first thing we noticed is that the budget was much lower for Something Comforting than his prior Get Your Wish video. Simplicity was the goal for Something Comforting. The main theme of this video is the creative struggle that Robinson faced in 2016. Porter Robinson’s character in the video is seen planting seeds and fishing.
These two activities can be seen as metaphors for music production. Watching a track slowly grow layer by layer is like planting a seed. Searching for a new idea or the perfect song is like hunting for a prized fish.
Fishing and farming are two activities in the Animal Crossing New Horizon’s video game. The new Animal Crossing was released on March 20, five days before this video.
Animal Crossing vibes
We highly doubt this is a coincidence. Robinson planned to have elements from the new Nintendo game in his music video. We also found Porter Robinson imitating two new animations from Animal Crossing. One where the main character is stung by a wasp, and another where they are bitten by a tarantula.
When Porter “jumps,” off the edge multiple times what does that represent? For us we see it as a reset button. Where you get a chance to start back over, from scratch.
Maybe helearned how to make use of the “reset button,” in his music production. What we do know is how much this song has touched our hearts and made us feel complete. Thank you Porter Robinson for sharing your music.
