Sensational headlines always have a double-edged sword. While it has become increasingly important to bring awareness to the many issues on this planet, it must be done with the underlying foundations of Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. Here at DMNW we strive to facilitate positive and necessary change while educating ourselves and our community.
Unfortunately, another day has passed that includes sensational headlines regarding music festivals and drug-related deaths. What should never happen has now become a common occurrence. Music festivals should be celebrated as profound experiences that facilitate community, embrace individuality, and encourage happiness; all through the love of the music. Drug-related deaths should never become an established norm.
Over the weekend, a second death occurred during Stereosonic’s tour through Australia. The death at Adelaide’s Stereosonic festival was only a week after a 25-year-old woman had a drug-related death during the Sydney leg of the tour. While another drug-related death is a terrible news story, these two deaths have continued to spark the conversation on establishing pill testing. Although some people are still fighting for heavier security or invasive searches, more and more people are fighting for the most logical option: pill testing.
Harm reduction is something that is very important to DMNW. What makes these cases so incredibly sad is that they are 100% preventable. Pill testing and education is the future that we are all striving towards and this future is almost within our reach. The awareness is growing and while these death are still terrible the conversation is starting to change.
