Have you ever wondered were major music festival designers pull their ideas from? From a massive volcano at Tomorrowworld, to the towering Ultra power stage of Miami, and a 360-degree “Resistance stage” debuted in Croatia, stage design is not something these artists take lightly. Jeremy Jones is no exception.
“The main stage design started out on a napkin, drawn in ketchup…” “There are throwbacks to the original ground breaking Joe Cole designed 2012 Paradiso stage. Erik Mahowald and Joe Cole together turned this ketchup drawing into what I believe may be one of the best stage designs ever, anywhere.”
Enter stage 2.
“The second stage was a crazy thought of mine. As I write this, I still do not know if it’s possible to build, but we are trying.”
From what we can speculate, this year’s stage two is to be just as formidable as the main stage. Nearly impossible to build, the crew is determined to see it through. We are all sure to be left in jaw-dropping awe once it is unveiled on day one. Take a moment and picture the possibilities in your mind.
“The idea of ‘scenic’ style stages is a tough territory especially when it’s not a permanent install. At some points I actually stopped the engineers and said, ‘Seriously, I didn’t actually mean for it to be THAT big, that was just a rough draft.’ But they won’t listen to me. It’s one of those rare times being ignored felt good.”
