ODESZA really took the world by storm last year with the release of In Return, the Seattle duo’s second full-length album, and one of the biggest, best, and breakout-iest albums to come out of electronic music last year. The record felt really fresh among the modern mainstream EDM climate, meticulously fusing the duo’s trademark sunny, glistening indietronica-influenced beat production with alternative and indie pop music, and was a rewarding listen from beginning to end because of how much detail was laid into every track. The heavy emphasis on vocal guests on the album made the album that much better, given the performances delivered by the album’s best vocal guests, among them: Jenni Potts, Briana Marela, and Zyra, whose vocals did wonders in selling Say My Name, ODESZA’s most popular track by far – the song that made them a sought-after festival favorite, and one of the best jams of 2014.
The duo has decided to capitalize on the immeasurable success of In Return by recently releasing a deluxe edition of the LP. This Deluxe Edition features instrumentals of all In Return tracks, as well as three live recordings (for IPlayYouListen, Bloom, and Say My Name), and the duo’s latest single, a collaboration with synthpop project Little Dragon, titled Light. The new track has a somber tone to it, with surprisingly dark synthesizers and an emotionally tortured performance from Yukimi Nagano. The track fits right in among the In Return track listing, and has our mouths watering for ODESZA’s next project.
