Think back to the late 90’s early 2000’s when Now That’s What I Call Music was born. For over a decade the many CD volumes we’re known for having the years most popular pop tunes. With the birth and fast rise of the mp3 player, along with the increasing ease of access of the Internet, Now That’s What I Call Music‘s sales were dwindling. “What can we do”, they thought. The decision was made to split up the single CD into separate genres, with the same concept, to include those genres’ most popular tracks. Enter 2014 and Universal Music Group’s recognition of the broad EDM genre.
Now stop and think. With over 18 artists featured on Now That’s What I Call EDM, out of those artists, who do you think would be the first to complain? No, not Martin Garrix, but Joel Zimmerman, aka Deadmau5, and boy did he have some choice words to share on twitter. See his tweets below and be sure let us know what your thoughts are on the album and its featured artists!
