It’s that time of the year again where hundreds and thousands of DJs and Artists begin to plead their case on why they belong in the DJ Mag Top 100. Countless videos made for each artist thanking their fans make way to YouTube and ad campaigns go up on almost every ‘EDM’ website imaginable. After last years controversy about artists literally BUYING their way into the DJ Mag Top 100, we can only hope that this year they’ve taken more precautions to help close those doors.
We had the opportunity today to vote for our favorite artists and also check out the poll to see if they’ve upgraded or changed anything from last year.
From what we could tell, it’s pretty much the same. The poll is ran through Facebook and they claim that one vote will be allowed per ‘IP Address’. After submitting the usual, name/email/age, you’re prompted to vote for your 5 favorite artists of the year as well as 1 ‘BONUS’ artist. Afterwards you’re thanked for submitting and are offered a few items from DJ Mag, for purchase of course.
There’s been a lot of questioning throughout the last year about ‘EDM’ and where it’s heading. In between the top 100 on Beatport and who can get the most followers on Facebook, I think we could all agree that the actual music probably isn’t the main focus or concern for some artists.
Our friends over at Stoney Roads released a great article regarding Beatport and why the ‘Top 100’ is currently failing. You can find this must read article here: http://stoneyroads.com/why-beatports-current-top-100-is-failing/.
At least we all know that in America, where ever ‘EDM’ is headed, it’s going to be a long road. The current growth in popularity of the genre makes it hard for anyone to argue against that fact!
We at Dance Music Northwest wish all artists and DJs who participate in this contest, the best of luck and we can’t wait to see this years results of the DJ Mag Top 100!
Here are a few DJ Mag Top 100 videos we found from some of the most popular artists in EDM:
