As we are sure you have read our article on club etiquette, we cannot emphasize enough the importance of getting to shows early. Last night we were celebrating one of our very own’s birthday shenanigans by raging to Black Tiger Sex Machine at Foundation Night Club, and we always practice what we preach, so we ended up at the show early. And thank f***ing Gaia!
We had never heard of Dabin before despite the fact that he already has three albums under his belt, and we had no idea what to expect. To say that we were pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. Hailing from our neighbors to the north, Dabin’s productions have a sort of Porter Robinson quality to them that spans the sounds of the electro-world.
The first track that pops up on Youtube is his track with Daniela Andrade called Hold, and it best exemplifies this theme. But one of the best parts about his musical stylings is that he is not limited by a specific genre, and his live set proves that sentiment. It’s been a while since we’ve seen an electronic band on stage, so it was extremely refreshing and jaw-droppingly awesome when he reached down from the decks and busted out an electric guitar. He began wailing away over the tracks he was playing, and the crowd was eating out of his hand.
If you haven’t checked out Dabin, take the time. (We have had him on repeat since we woke up this morning.) … Then tell us what you think of his music!
Also, do yourself a favor, and go early to check out the artists you’ve never heard before. You might just find yourself with a brand new healthy obsession.
