Last year, Mysteryland became the first major American festival to go cash-free, opting instead for RFID wristbands. The technology allows festivalgoers to load a pre-determined amount of money onto a wristband, using that as their currency for the duration of the weekend. For every $100 you load onto the bracelet, you receive an additional $25. We all know how expensive ATM charges can get after a long festival weekend. With a loaded wristband, you have a set amount of money that gets you everything from food to merchandise, keeping you out of long lines and back at the stages seeing the music.
This strategy has also been adopted by Squamish Music & Arts Festival, Electric Zoo, and Counter.Point, all to massive levels of success and satisfaction. Needless to say, a cashless festival experience is the way of the future, and Mysteryland has successfully set the tone. For anyone who wants to experience it firsthand, you can grab tickets over in this direction, and flight info to New York here.
