The FIFA series is quickly becoming one of the most popular video games. Realistic gameplay and stunning graphics have put FIFA head and shoulders above everyone else in the sports simulation market. On top of yearly improvements to the actual game, FIFA is always extremely on point with their game’s soundtrack. Year in and year out, FIFA’s soundtrack is incredibly diverse and bolsters the international flavor of the world’s most popular sport. Past soundtracks have included deadmau5, Disclosure, Foreign Beggars, Empire of the Sun and Robert DeLong, just to name a few. The recent release of FIFA 15 did not disappoint with their track listing this year, featuring a brand new song titled Imperium from Dance Music Northwest’s favorite Frenchman Madeon.
Unfortunately for his fans, Madeon has been noticeably quiet recently. While still touring sporadically to stay busy, we can only hope that Madeon’s silence is the result of him being on the verge of releasing something big. Almost a year ago, Madeon tweeted that he was taking the year off to work an an upcoming album. It is true that you can’t rush perfection, but the anticipation is absolutely killing us here at Dance Music Northwest. Sometimes it is easy forget that the Launchpad king is only 20 years old! Everything Madeon (real name Hugo Leclerq) produces is timeless and features the perfect blend of disco, electro house and pop. Go ahead and listen to his Pop Culture mashup from three years ago. Is it not still as dope now as it was then? If Imperium is any foreshadow of what is to come from Madeon, then we can definitely expect the landscape of dance music to change.
Imperium showcases a much darker sound than we are used to hearing from Madeon. A dirty French electro synth blends perfectly Madeon’s signature disco samples. Imperium also features chiptune and glitch sounds that are a perfect complement to the heavily modulated and euphoric chords. The break in the latter part of the song is simply beautiful and is his typical style. There could not have been a better way for Madeon to end his production hiatus.
