DMNW on the road: Travel tips and tricks for Lost Lands 2024

This month, Dance Music Northwest is flying out to Thornville, Ohio for Lost Lands 2024. But before we enjoy a long weekend of incredible bass music from around the world, we must first travel across the country and get ourselves safely to Legend Valley. We (as well as many of you) are versed in the difficulties of traveling, especially when it comes to camping festivals.

From packing to traveling, and of course the camping itself, there is always room for error that can turn a great weekend into a nightmare. To help our fellow travelers in their journey to Legend Valley for Lost Lands, here are some ways you can make sure you get there as easily and safely as possible.

Packing

One of the hardest parts of going to an out-of-state festival is packing. When flying out to a festival, the key is to choose carefully what you bring to minimize space and maximize utility. Keep a checklist to track what you need to pack versus what you want to pack. Pack the things you need first and then if you still have room pack anything you want.

Many of us who would usually bring bulky items like flow toys, totems, or large speakers might need to leave them at home to make room for things like toiletries, clothing, and more essential items. Central Ohio can have drastic weather changes, some within just a few hours. In previous years, Lost Lands has seen everything from torrential rain and wind to scorching heat and humidity. Be sure to pack clothing options for any occasion to keep yourself comfortable through the week.

In case of sudden weather changes, it is always wise to take advantage of in-festival lockers to keep a change of clothes and weatherproof materials. Lastly, always place luggage tags on your bags with your name and phone number on them in case you lose or misplace them.

Traveling

Traveling can be a stressful experience with flights to catch and belongings to look after. With all of these stressors, a few drinks at the airport or on the plane might sound like a good way to start off a fun weekend. However, getting a buzz on will likely make it easier to lose track of time or even leave behind belongings. Wait until you get to your final destination before starting the party.

For all of your travel departures, show up early. Don’t leave anything to chance when it comes to catching a flight or a shuttle, because it’s always better to be early than late. Delays can always be managed but missing a flight can ruin your whole trip.

Always check and double-check essentials including IDs, credit cards, keys, tickets, and any other items you will need attend Lost Lands. A good practice when traveling is to have nothing in your pockets except your phone and wallet. Keep the majority of your most important items in a bag or purse so you don’t leave anything behind.

Long flights and waiting in lines are difficult enough, so make it easier on yourself and wear loose-fitting clothing. To save space in your luggage, pick some of your bulkiest clothing to wear while traveling.

Camping

Getting from the airport to the festival is just as important as the flight there. Make sure you have transportation arranged to and from the airport and Thornville which is around a 45-minute drive. Whether your ride is a friend, an Uber, a shuttle, or a rented vehicle, have transportation planned ahead of time.

Also, make a plan to get food, water, and any other things you may need before you get to camp. The campgrounds are in a rural area, so any shopping should be done before you arrive at Legend Valley. Campground amenity and general information can be found on the Lost Lands website.

With these tips and tricks, we expect traveling to and from Thornville, Ohio to be smooth sailing. So pack light, travel safe, and we will see you in Legend Valley for Lost Lands 2024.
