Change of Location
Electronic music fans who had attended Bumbershoot in previous years, when the electronic music stage was the Sky Church inside the EMP, were very disappointed with the Pavilion Stage. USC did the best they could with the space provided, which was inside a comparatively boring building with white walls and a tiled ceiling; the stage, lighting and LED screens gave the place somewhat of the club-feel, but it just didn’t compare to the Sky Church. When asked about the venue change, USC shared only that the venue wasn’t available to them, so they had to move their event. While we can only guess that USC was disappointed too, we don’t know for certain the reason behind the change. All we know is that it was a let down for returning Electronic fans.
Big Name Sponsors But No Big Name Acts
Despite there being no real big name acts this year, there was certainly no lack of big name brands with their logos stamped on things. Attendees were bombarded constantly by Starbucks, BudLight and Coca Cola branding. Fans exiting the festival next to the EMP were lured by a decked-out Playstation trailer. As we were walking out on Monday, we watched a man throwing out t-shirts and shouting over a loudspeaker, trying to get people excited. It was hard for us to accept that Bumbershoot had scaled back the billing to save money, but corporate sponsorship was everywhere.
