New Years has come and gone and 2016 is in full swing without a doubt. Many of us spent the night out with good company ringing in the New Year and dancing the night away. One event in Vancouver, BC caught our eye and we can safely say it was a banger. Put together by the fine folks of Digital Motion Events and SHAHdjs, we were pretty much guaranteed to have a proper NYE celebration. We joined up with local photographer Joffrey Middleton-Hope to capture the night and share a taste of our night.
Red Room Ultra Bar has been a favorite of ours, as well as the local bass scene. With their ‘Subculture Saturdays,’ it’s been the place to be on a Saturday night for dance music fans. New Years proved to be no different with a host of local talent and a custom built stage with visuals and headlined by Longwalkshortdock. The night was nothing short of a great time, and with a stellar lineup we couldn’t have asked for more.
The night kicked off with Carlos Vendetta behind the decks. We were greeted with a custom built stage for the night, classy NYE decor, and even a decadent snack bar. As the night got going, The Gangstronauts turned up party with their killer A/V set with some impressive visuals.
The party was now in full swing and we were ready for the ball to drop and ring in 2016! Rather than the traditional countdown with balloons, confetti and champagne. Red Room brought us a 10 minute performance by non-other than Subscura, the same dance troop that showed off their moves at this year’s Shambhala and Bass Coast.
As we counted down the final 10 seconds of 2015 we were prepared to throw on our dancing shoes. Dave King, better known as Longwalkshortdock, was now our main man. For the next 90 minutes we were the passengers on a journey through electronic music, accompanied by a mind blowing RIM visual stage. Dave is no stranger to getting the crowd moving as a seasoned Shambhala veteran.
Just when we thought the night couldn’t get any better, Bullet Bill followed by a B2B performance from Willisist & Decibel Point wrapped up our night. We partied well into the early morning and wouldn’t have had it any other way.
We’d like to personally thank Blake from The Red Room for allowing us to come celebrate the New Year with him and the rest of the incredible staff. We’d also like to thank Joffrey Middleton-Hope for providing us with the amazing photos from the night. Be sure to check out the full album from the night, as well as our article featuring his best photos from 2015 BC festivals. 2016 is shaping up to be quite the year for dance music. We’re looking forward to seeing what other great and amazing shows the Red Room will be bringing us.
