Less than two weeks after the first Excision B2B Liquid Stranger set at Thunderdome ’23, Liquid Stranger has released new music with WAKAAN’s sister label, SSKWAN. On Thursday, February 16, SSKWAN dropped the highly anticipated Unity EP. Back in December, the single Smoke N Hope dropped, giving fans a preview of Unity‘s downtempo, melodic sounds.
Unity EP: a goldmine of other-wordly downtempo
After hearing the teasers of the Unity EP throughout the sets Liquid Stranger performed at Beyond Wonderland ’22, his Seattle stop for the Dimensions tour in November, and then most recently at Thunderdome ’23, we’ve been very excited about the release of the EP.
When the single Smoke N Hope came out, we were pleasantly surprised by its more organic sounding intro. When you first begin to listen to the song, you may not even be able to tell you’re listening to the EDM genre, as the song uses a catchy acoustic guitar intro. The song’s individuality only further contributed to the anticipation for the entirety of Unity.
As four more songs joined in to complete Unity, February 16 was a day soundtracked by the EP on repeat. Each song has its own uniqueness, but still maintains a common tie in with their chill sounds. Moon Rover, like Smoke N Hope, also uses organic sounding guitar melodies to introduce the song. The three remaining tracks on the five-track gold mine begin with Liquid Stranger’s signature weird sounding electronica style, and draw listeners in with other-worldly tones. Given some time to take it all in, you can be assured Unity will leave you laid back and tranquilized.
What is SSKWAN?
With WAKAAN already having made a name for itself in the bass scene, Liquid Stranger started the SSKWAN project with the intent to give his lower BPM ambient sounds a home of their own. SSKWAN debuted in August of 2020, with the release of the Alchemy LP, a collection of songs by an artist named Au5. In less than 3 years since its debut, SSKWAN has been steadily dropping new music from artists like Luzcid, Cannabliss, and many others.
Liquid Stranger dropped his own SSKWAN hit Snow Melt with long time friend and fellow melodic bass artist Luzcid in July of 2021. Hitting yet another milestone in his career, Liquid Stranger made waves with his first contribution to the sister label. Other artists like Shlump, Ravenscoon and Champagne Drip quickly joined in on creating some chill, downtempo tracks, and have since released multiple hit tracks with the SSKWAN label.
After selling out WAKAAN Festival in 2022, it’s clear Liquid Stranger is doing something right with his labels. The WAKAAN fanbase received the introduction of SSKWAN with a warm welcome, and continues to adore its unique releases. The Unity EP comes to us through Liquid Stranger’s intricate exploration of downtempo, psychedelic sound and perfectly shows off his dedication to creating new and different pieces for fans to enjoy.
The 5 song EP is streaming now across all platforms and can be heard here.
