Bringing us past sunset and into the night would have only been fitting for one artist on the lineup. That privilege would go to none other than NGHTMRE himself, and we wouldn’t have had it any other way. It was at the point the production level of Kingdom would be seen in full swing. The massive props, dancers, smoke, paint, and LED screens was quite the spectacle. By now, the crowd had been warmed up plenty, and NGHTMRE was about to unleash a torrent of bass. We’d be lying if we said we weren’t head banging when he dropped his VIP of Streets.
The night was reaching its end as we made our way to the final act; but there was certainly no time to rest. Making their second appearance in Vancouver this year was the powerhouse duo Knife Party. For the next 90 minutes we witnessed Gareth McGrillen deliver the goods. Dropping crowd favorites like Internet Friends, Centipede, and the always fun Bonfire/Tarantula mash up, we were reminded just how fun Knife Party is live. At points, there was such a roar coming from the crowd it seemed like the speakers were being over powered.
Closing out the set with a freshly released track Battle Sirens, we thought we’d finally reached the end. But with one last surprise, we were treated with Knife Party’s mash up of Tritonal’s Ginsu and Deadmau5’s Ghosts-n-Stuff… and LOTS of paint.
Life in Color – Kingdom proved once again they’re a master of their craft. The rightful owners of the title “Biggest Paint Party in the World” certainly had us pleased with the night. The combination of over the top production and big name artists is something we’d suggest everyone try at least once. Kingdom was nothing short of an all out paint barrage. It was hard to resist the urge to jump into the crowd and get weird with everyone, but protecting our camera gear was going to be difficult.
In true Blueprint fashion, the night was FAR from over, as we’ve said countless times before “trust in the afterparty.” Making our way back into the city, we weren’t sure what to expect – but as history as proven it was always worth it. We arrived at Celebrites at essentially were given a 2nd dose of the line up with performances from all Life in Color artists.
Blueprint has shown that anything is possible at their after parties, and this one would be capped off with a B2B like no other. Closing out our Life in Color Kingdom stop in Vancouver would be a Back-2-Back featuring Ekali, Felix Cartel, NGHTMRE, Dr. Fresch, and Knife Party. Our hats off to you Blueprint, as you’ve once again shown how to put together a great night.
