Kompany’s ‘Untouchable’ EP breathes new life into bass (DMNW Review)

If you caught the back-to-back set from Kompany and Calcium at Bass Canyon a few weeks ago, you might be at the edge of your seat for some of the unreleased music they played. You’re in luck: Kompany’s biggest release to date just dropped.

Listen to Kompany’s Untouchable EP out now on Never Say Die, and read the DMNW review below.

Untouchable EP showcases range while bringing heavyweight bass

From the start to finish, Untouchable plays like a cohesive project. Breach starts out the EP by building up suspense until it reaches the flavor of growling dubstep that Kompany is known for. But the next track featuring vocalist KC, Just Like You, shows where the producer flexes his propensity for range in the emotional bass ballad.

For as much range as the first half packs, the real meat is in the second half of the project. Composer with Vastive is the standout track of the Untouchable EP. The drops are heavy, the synth riffs are ripe with layers: what else could you ask for?

Immediately following Composer, Cut Throat with up-and-coming producer Jiqui delivers another refreshing take. Together, the two tackle a punchy beat full of bass with tightly-produced synth chops that carry the track from beginning to end seamlessly.

Fittingly, Kompany finds a way to tie in his brand with the album’s namesake track, Untouchable. Similarly to the closing VIP edit of the album, Firewall, Untouchable is certain to be a song that’s dropped throughout the year at bass shows. For the Firewall VIP edit, Kompany closes out the project on a high.

Catch Kompany on tour this November

For the last couple of years, Kompany has been absolutely blowing up the bass music scene. A frequenter for both giants Never Say Die and Excision’s Subsidia labels, the producer has become a household name. If you’ve been to any dubstep show in the last few years chances are likely you’ve heard Extraterrestrial with Tynan.

If you missed him during Bass Canyon this year, be sure to check out Kompany in Portland during his Untouchable tour on November 19th. As his biggest tour to date with over 35 stops, this won’t be one to skip. Head to the 45 East Facebook event page for tickets, and stream the Untouchable EP by Kompany out now.
