As many believe, EDM can be viewed as its own culture with a focus on community and coming together as a united group. We all love our “rave families” and wouldn’t have it any other way. A lot of the artists are like family as well, just like our own community. Many artists are just like us, and attend the same festivals, talk about music with each other, and bond with one another over these shared experiences.
“It’s one big family now in the last 3 years. Once I started branching out with Pendulum and Destroid, I really got to meet everybody and see how close everybody really is. The concept of EDM as a term is worldwide and I think it’s great.”
For artists like KJ, it’s all about his fans, as well as being genuine. Realizing that his fans enjoy not only his music, but the videos on YouTube he puts out, he is always pleased to give them a sneak peek.
“Your track has to be that much better as with any business now a days you need to be throwing stuff at your fans every single day to stay afloat. I figured out what my fans really are, and at least half are producers and drummers. People just want to see me play drums. People want to see inside the studio.”
Notably, KJ receives lots of questions from fans, and he tries to answer them all, even regularly hosting remix contests for young producers. He genuinely cares about what his fans think as well as getting the chance to interact with them. From showing his open Abelton sessions and seeing just how he produces a track, to playing drums on video and showing off his set up, it’s clear that KJ’s passion for the music is unmatched.
