Justin Jay may not yet be a household name, but it is clear from his latest release that he has the skill to go far. Instincts, his new release by Dirtybird is made up of three delicious tracks that we would prefer to hear on a dance floor rather than in our headphones. What’s even more incredible about Justin? He’s still in college and is interning at Dirtybird. We’re very happy that someone at the studio gave his tracks a listen and even happier that they got released. Jay recently released Instincts EP teasers a few weeks back, and now that the full EP is here we’re loving it.
The three tracks have different personalities and yet mesh incredibly well to form a cohesive EP. Analysis Paralysis, the first selection, has a tasty synth line and hypnotic beat that are definitely not the club bangers we hear in more mainstream venues. With that being said, we couldn’t help but groove in our headphones to the infectious deep beat. Denial feat Pilo has a meatier bassline that we thoroughly enjoyed sinking our teeth into along with backing vocals that encourage us to get up and dance. The loops keep our attention and provide more depth to the track all while taking us back to a grittier, more underground venue sound. Instincts, the title track, has a sexy deep house bassline and a synth beat that just won’t quit.
Like what you hear from Justin Jay? His future can only get brighter so we strongly encourage purchasing the Instincts EP so you have the bragging rights to say you had his music way back when. We’re hopeful that he’ll make it up to the PNW soon, we tend to be spoiled when it comes to artists visiting and would love to see what he brings to a live crowd.
