On April 26 and 27, we headed to the Showbox in Seattle for a weekend of electronic music featuring sensational multi-genre artist Jauz. Sam Vogel, also known as Jauz, brought a talented group of artists to Seattle for his Wise vs. Wicked tour over two nights of great music.
This tour celebrates the 5th anniversary of the groundbreaking album release The Wise and the Wicked. Its release has amassed tens of millions of streams online. The album highlighted the dichotomy of the Jauz project that has become the defining feature of its success and longevity. This contrast was reflected in the two nights of music. Friday’s performance was a bass-heavy setlist of dubstep, drum and bass, and some of Jauz‘s older tracks. Then, Saturday’s set consisted of more melodic house and house songs.
Jauz brings the heavy hitters to the first night
We went into the heart of Seattle for Friday’s performance at the historic Showbox Theatre at the Marketplace to dance and rage with Jauz and other great musicians.
To open up the show, local DJ K-Boat warmed up the crowd with an impressive dubstep-heavy set. Up next, fellow local DJ and producer Kymo played a thrilling set full of anime themes and remixes. With people now pouring into the Showbox, Jkyl & Hyde came up as direct support for Jauz. Jkyl & Hyde mixed a spectacular set of original and unreleased riddim and hard trap tunes, including his newly released Jauz remix of Save Me Now.
Finally, Jauz came out to show us the Wrath of the Wicked. From the first beat to the last, Jauz played a superb set of dubstep, drum and bass, and hard trap songs, showing us the variety and history of his impressive discography. His song choice and transition techniques made for a seamless stream of nostalgic throwbacks and modern hits that kept the energy going. And of course, he played out many tracks from Wrath of the Wicked, including Mind Control and Bad Boi Sound. To end the night on a good note, Jauz kept the party going with an extra-long encore. It was that last rush of adrenaline that we needed.
Although we didn’t attend the second night with Jauz, showgoers reported an equally thrilling experience. The sentiment was uplifting and full of positive energy, showcasing another tour of his past and present productions.
In total, the Seattle stop of the Wise vs Wicked tour by Jauz was a massive success. We hope to see him again soon in the Pacific Northwest to entertain the masses with his classic basslines and timeless melodies.
