It’s warming up to be everyone’s favorite time of the year: festival season. There are tons of nationally recognized festivals like EDC, Ultra, Coachella, Sasquatch, and Lollapalooza, to name a few. But there is one festival that stands out. That festival is South by Southwest (or more commonly, SXSW) held every March in Austin, Texas. Each year, the festival has grown in size and this year is no exception. Apple, apparently wanting to join in the hype, announced that the iTunes Festival would be making its U.S. debut by joining forces with SXSW.
The entire festival spans ten days (March 7-16) with the iTunes Festival set to take place March 11-15. It will be housed at the ACL Live at the Moody Theater, also home to Austin City Limits. The Festival already has quite a lineup, including Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Pitbull, Keith Urban, ZEDD, and more artists to be announced. With such a diverse lineup, it will be interesting to see who steps up to perform with these wildly popular acts.
SXSW doesn’t just have music, but film and interactive events as well. The ten-day event literally takes over the entire city of Austin. It is the largest music festival in the world, with over 2,200 acts performing in more than 100 venues scattered around the city. The Interactive events last from March 7-11, the Film from March 7-15, and the Music from 11-16. With this packed schedule, there is something for everyone!
Adding the iTunes Festival to the list should produce even larger numbers for the South By Southwest. In years to come this will make the festival that much more appealing to new audiences. With this announcement, we can’t help but wonder what’s next for the iTunes Festival.
