You know how when you get really excited for an event as a kid, and then spend the next six months talking about how amazing it was and your friends make fun of you because it’s all you talk about? We’ve somewhat resembled that kid over these last few weeks with the Compound, and while it’s been an absolutely amazing experience, all good things must come to an end. We’ve saved some of the most exciting pieces for last, and while we want to keep talking about the Compound for the next forever, with the end of this interview we must wait for the next time Dada comes and temporarily annexes part of the PNW again.

While we only got to see half of Dada this time, we got an amazing education on just how Stefan and Olle work together on and off stage. From what Stefan described of their in-studio process, they keep each other going in sometimes hilarious and sometimes more subtle ways. As we dive deeper with our favorite producers, we are coming to learn that as hard as they work on stage, they work even harder in the studio. They’ve been known to share some of their hard work with others, with the Sausage Fattener and now releasing the One Smile files for fans to play with.
“We can’t wait for inspiration. We think inspiration comes to you when you work hard.”
What’s really cool about how they work in studio is that they actually have two studios right next to each other, so that they can work in tandem on projects. They both touch every aspect of the production, which means their skill sets are intertwined. Unlike other EDM groups who have certain members who do more (or all) of the actual production, Dada Life is truly both of them.
“That’s the good part about being 2 [people] also, because if I come in and I’m a little bit tired, and Olle is super excited that day and he just brings me up so we’re just on face.”
It must be phenomenal to get to wake up and do work with your best friend each day; we can only hope that soon we get a bigger glimpse of what life is like in the studio for the guys. Maybe we will get to see it, as Stefan joked about putting up a Go Pro so we could watch just what goes into making a Dada track. It sounds like a crazy process with the side by side studios, and we image that in the midst of rolling their chairs back and forth there’s a fair amount of mischief and fun also involved in the production process. When in the studio the guys treat it like a full 9-5 job, living and eating in the studio, with some fun after effects as a result of what they leave lying around. Previously they mentioned incorporating a fork leftover from lunch into a track, who knows what they’ll throw in next.
