Dolly Parton, the arguable Queen of Country, has joined forces with Galantis and Mr. Probz for a incredibly positive remix of John Hiatt’s 1987 hit song Faith, that was released just over this last weekend.
Putting her own signature style on this classic song, Parton transforms the original piano ballad into a soaring symphony of a dance track with the help of the Swedish dance duo and Dutch rapper. Together with Galantis, the song has been reinvented and it’s difficult not to get your emotions get the better of you while listening to this happy collab.
Thumping beats and hand-clapped rhythms replace the piano with a sing-along melody that will no doubt soar, especially when played live on the dance floor at festivals to come. Mid-song, Parton’s iconic vocals enter the remix and provide welcomed inspiration to the already uplifting track.
“This world is just so dark and ugly and awful…so I’m going to make it my business to try to do songs that are more uplifting, not all Christian-based songs, but songs about better things. Do better, and have a little more love, a little more light and don’t be so dark and dirty,” she conceded in her Grand Ole Opry performance on Oct. 12th.
Parton is used to hearing dance remixes of her songs, specifically citing times when Peace Train and Baby, I’m Burnin’ have been reworked into new expressions of her ever popular hits. Now that she has dipped her toes into the world of creating an original dance collaboration, she wouldn’t be opposed to making more.
“I always know inside myself what’s right and what’s wrong to do, and this felt really right,” Parton says. “I’m open to doing more with them and continue with this — if this does well.”
This isn’t a first for country artists becoming incorporated into the EDM world with the likes of Lady Antebellum and Audien’s Something Better, Zach Brown Band and Avicii’s Broken Arrows, to name a few. It begs the question of how these genres will continue to evolve together and where future collaborations will take these two very different types of music moving forward.
