SiriusXM is now the latest company to start offering free premium service during the coronavirus pandemic. At the end of March, the satellite radio company announced that they’re providing free premium service until May 15th!
Listeners will now have access to all 300 of their unique radio channels. The premium service includes access to a handful of dance and electronic music channels too, such as BPM and Diplo’s Revolution.
BPM — one of the more popular EDM channels in SiriusXM’s catalog — features segments from big names like Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki, and The Chainsmokers. Likewise, Diplo’s Revolution routinely features segments hosted by Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Party Favor, and more.
You don’t even need an account to access this free service. Simply download the SiriusXM app or access the free web player to start listening.
Making up for lost fun
This move by SiriusXM is an attempt to get everyone to stay home and practice social distancing. Self-isolating for long periods of time is difficult. So incentivizing with free services is one method lots of entertainment companies are taking.
Apple is offering free 90-day subscriptions for its music streaming platform, as well as a free 90-days for their audio software Logic Pro X. Other companies like Bandsintown and Bandcamp have set up relief funds to help musicians affected by this pandemic. And this is among the countless livestreaming events that have sprung up to compensate for lost live show revenue and fan experiences.
