Fort Knox Five is a name that is synonymous with funk across North America and beyond. The D.C based funk ensemble, consisting of Steve Raskin, Rob Myers, Sid Barcelona, and the now late Jon Horvath, has been rocking dance floors since 2003. In our upcoming interview with Fort Knox Five (watch for it’s release!) Raskin says that the 5th member “is whoever we collaborate with!” FK5 are notorious collaborators, pairing for releases with Afrika Bambaataa, plus many others. There’s no doubt they’re some of the hardest working cats in the game right now, with no signs of stopping.
2017 is proving to be an ambitious year for the group, with tour dates spanning all across Canada and the US. As you can see below, some of the biggest festivals across North America like Enchanted Forest, What The Festival, and of course, Shambhala Music Festival appear on the list. Group sets and 4 deck jam sessions with their friend QDup are also on their itinerary, so you never know what to expect, and that’s the way we like it!
Their newest mix, Funk The World 40, is a the perfect jam to fire everyone up for summer. Featuring originals, bootlegs, and plenty of original jams from their friends on Fort Knox Recordings, their DC based label, you’ll certainly be anticipating their festival sets by the end of the mix.
